Member Herb Liberman and his wife Beverly presented a slideshow and details of their recent trip to Nicaragua as part of the group project (Dental/Eye) of the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club. There were 26 people in their party. Travel was by plane, water taxi and by bus. The weather was good.

Many wonderful photographs were displayed showing the conditions under which they lived and worked.

Over a three-day period of time they performed 1,041 eye examinations, dispensed 656 eyeglasses and 745 sunglasses. Over the same period of time, there were 227 dental patients with 242 extractions and 127 fillings or restorations.

Visiting Rotarian Richard Randolph was also on the trip and offered commentary. He reported on the project that is being funded by several of the food they will be. There is a group who may put you in the event that the nickname meaning the people who make it technically is the glue that he District 5130 to fund an urgent care/surgery center in the Sabalos region of Nicaragua. This area serves nearly 30,000 people, who otherwise would have to take a 2-5 hour trip to the nearest regional medical center for any problems. The center will provide obstetrical ultrasound and birthing facilities, opportunities for evaluation and treatment of injuries (will include an x-ray machine, currently not available) and will be capable of performing cataract extractions with probable lens implants, along with other surgery.

Herb, Beverly and Rich all encouraged members to participate in future trips. The approximate cost of participation is $1200, which includes travel, lodging and meals.
