Jack Vallerga talked about his experience as a Rotarian.  When he joined Rotarians were the leaders in their fields.  He was the first educator to join and felt he had to work really hard to live up to Rotary's reputation.  The district at that time encompassed the whole of the coastal California from the Golden Gate Bridge to and including Crescent City.  He was asked to consider becoming a District Governor.  He accepted.  Then learned his wife Gloria had terminal cancer.  He had to make some hard decisions and discussed with his wife if he should become a governor or not.  They decided to seek advice from trusted friends and their pastor.  All encouraged him to become Governor, which he did.  He was the first District Governor of District 5130.
